Tribal Mission By> Ptr. Jesse Amiel Ramoso

Visiting in Mt. Lunotan of Gingoog City a few kilometers from the crash site of Cebu Pacific, there I found one pastor Allan Madronial who faithfully serve as a tribal pastor for almost 6 years. Pastor Allan was one of my Bible study student when I was one of the missionary in Higaonon tribes in this mountain back 15 years ago. He attend Bible study not to learn the word of God but to debate and spy us on what were really doing in their area. He is waiting on us to see the opportunity in order to justify his action of killing, but praise God he cannot. When I was been able to erect one of the church building and help educate kids and people in the area, Allan started seeing the hands of God working in the lives of his fellow people. Unfortunately, God brought me here in Manila for my studies, I didn't witness the life transformation of Allan as our accuser to a follower of God. He committed himself to serve God, the way he saw our sacrifices when we were serving them. He knew personally that some of our supporters on and off to send their financial aid, therefore he knew that we sometimes walk almost 20 kilometers every time we climb the mountain, because we cannot afford to pay transportation. This sacrifices reflected in the life of Allan when he come to know the Lord. He serve the Lord by preaching the gospel and walk same as what we experienced. Allan does not have a proper education in theology, not even finish his high school. Only his advantage is he is able to communicate tribal dialect and has access to speak to Datus and chieftain of the tribes. However, Allan was not that influential man in their tribe because of his situation.

The moment I visited his house, my heart melt to see him leaving in the bush and dependent his food supply from his garden. He owned a portion of land but sad to say he has no finances to tilt it because his money is not enough to help also his church members for medicine and some sorts of emergencies. Allan was left out somewhere in the mountain without somebody help him financially.

When I went down to ask our local pastors and churches why they did not help Allan, their answer was, this not ordinary problem in our church. God is working in this area that there is so much harvest and a few laborers, if there are committed laborers in the Lord they will not survive, if they survive they survive like Allan's situation. We cannot help because in our own church we cannot pay for our own workers and associate pastor due to financial crisis in the area. Most of the members in the church are jobless or income-less if they have job. They work for their land but they don't have harvest.

My initiative was to establish a livelihood program for this poor pastors and members of the church. My family decided to buy fishing boats for livelihood for a few families in Gingoog Bay, I committed my few months salary to help farmers like Allan and his members to finance their seedling and fertilizers. As of now at least Ptr. Allan relieved from his personal burden of where to find his source of income for his family and his church.

I learn that there are almost 20 pastors in this mountains has identical problem like Allan, however I and my family finances are not enough to supply or finance the livelihood for this pastors and members in this mountain. I would like to ask your prayers and help them financially. You can help them financially through enrolling your kids in music with me and 80% of their tuition goes to the ministry., or just give your financial assistance for them. If you want exposure for a mission for this mountain that would be fine, however at this moment this area is currently marked as a red alert area due to NPA and AFP conflict.

I would like to acknowledge and say thank you to Mr. and Mrs Gilbert L. of United Evangelical Church of San Pablo for enrolling their children with me this summer and Ms. Camille T. and to United Evangelical Church of Manila for enrolling their youth ministry to music training with me. The proceeds of this trainings goes to the tribal missionaries or pastors for their livelihood

Filipino Anti-Crab Mentality and Gossip Logic By: Ptr. Jesse Amiel A. Ramoso

Don't waste your money, time and effort just to pull-down somebody; you cannot pull down somebody unless if you fall yourself down first. By doing this, you spend money time and effort for your enemies and for self destruction. Only fool spend his/her money time and effort to destroy him/herself. Push others up by doing this you push yourself up.

A simple logic to gossipers and ways to test who gossip you is this: if she/he can afford to gossip others on you behind their backs then why not can he/she afford of gossiping you if your not around? The gossipers is doing gossip all the time, careful with this kind of people. What's the thing that hold between you and this gossipers in order to make sure that he/she will not gossip you. If you rebuke gossipers when they start gossiping on you then this is the only thing that help yourself protecting this kind of personality. Then you can help yourself also to limit your trust in this kind of people. There are only two options that we can choose, to lose friendship with this kind of people or lose our refutations. Likewise if you are gossipers, reading this article you now know that gossiping others is a self destruction of your own refutation. Stop gossiping others, you are not destroying yourself but also other. You will realized someday when you are in the court facing the charges of Libel and slander. Pick your choice. A participants to the gossip; do not enjoy the information from the gossipers. How heart relieving to hear information regarding people we hate and we don't like, this is not healthy diet for our soul; to find relieve from false testimony we can only find a safe refuge to the Lord through His Words.

Why Churches Ineffective in Advocating Social Justice and Righteousness

Why Churches Ineffective in Advocating Social Justice and Righteousness
By: Ptr. Jesse Amiel A. Ramoso

“Evangelicals” are theologically bankrupt, and runs the Church like corporation or institution which hire and fire pastors/ministers if their agenda would not be met. A comments according to Orthodox Priests Fr. Wenfrey from Evangelical and David Thomas from Baptist as they were sacked from their Church and went to Orthodox. That is why most of them “Pastors” are installed by layman “board of deacons/trustees” in their position without authority “cannot execute plans or drive the Church into a fullest potential” unless on their command; in short theologians are being manage and directed by laymen regarding theological issues. While on the contrary, the other group of Evangelicals manage the church by pastors are questionable in terms of financial accountability and transparency, this is because of the absence of checking and balance procedure in the church due to assumption of absolute trust as they're honest servant of God; in short because they're theologians and almost infallible. However, on the seminar conducted by ATS “Asian Theological Seminary Philippines I find it peculiar to us as a church because this is sensitive case. This ministerial forum addressed the issue of abused of Money, Sex and Power in the churches is almost identical to the Orthodox father's complain. To explain further, Atty. Alex Castillo a former CEO of Del Monte Phil. raised six proposals that promote propriety in the administration of church funds or finances. First, church must have a sensible system to record and report the church's financial activity and information. The main purpose is to create a clear paper or audit trail. Second, church must ensure financial transparency to an adequately large and relevant audience. Purpose is to hold church leadership accountable and transparent to its constituent. Third, register your church with the S.E.C and, as appropriate, with the B.I.R as a TAX-Free entity. Purpose, is to give the church a legal personality, subject to the laws of the country particularly to the governing corporation. Fourth, institute check and balance mechanisms in the accounting, disbursement and investment of church funds. Purpose, is to ensure that there are control mechanisms in the administration of the church funds. Fifth, clarify and stress individual accountability for every aspect of financial administration activity. Purpose, to clearly delineate individual accountability for each aspect of the administration of church funds and to ensure all aspects are covered. Sixth, implement a “No Conflict of Interest” policy. Purpose, to ensure the church adheres to the highest standards of integrity in its transactions with suppliers and to signal it is serious about this. While on our second speaker, Atty. Federico Tancongco of BDO private Bank, address the issue of transparency and accountability in the church and Christian organization and he raised four arguments. First is”the argument of secularization” in the church. Reason, some ministers argued that transparency and accountability are secular rules and designed for business and should not be applied to religious organization. The answer to this argument, he quoted 2 Corinthians 18: 16-23 DE-SECULARIZE TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY is biblical, that even Paul has been escorted by few people to secure while bringing money to Jerusalem and these people were appointed by the Church and not Paul. Second, “mistrust argument”. Some argued that checks and balances breed a culture of suspicion and distrust in relationships and in an organization. Remedy, declaration of principles which churches and Christian organization may subscribe to. This will provides norms of behaviour that maybe invoked by champions of transparency and accountability. Third argument is the “hassle argument”, that unnecessary procedures documentation delay prompt action “sa tagal ng approval iba na ang price the money the budget release”. The answer to this is that church needs to develop a model manual embodying minimum policies, procedures, standards and best practices. This manual covers integrity in fund raising, financial statements, reporting accuracy, financial disclosure, conflict of interest, checks and balances, donor's bill of rights, gifts from suppliers, dealings with government and agencies and etc. Fourth, “ownership argument” that once given the amount ceases to belong to the donor and the accountability is to God not the donor. He advised that Christian Organization should develop a certificated training program for leaders that impact fund raising badge of commitment to governance and leadership on the same page. These two lawyers pointed out that senior pastor or chairman of the board has potential to abuse the area of finances in the church.
How about the power? How senior pastor or chairman of board or boar of deacons abuse their power? Atty. Ferdinand Rafanan “CEO VI-CESO III” of COMELEC and Ms. Nora Lucero Gen. Sec . Of PBS “Phil. Bible Society” talks the issues of power in the church. Atty. Rafanan disclosed the eight issues regarding church power abuse in legal perspective. First, the wide abuse of “family and clans” in the church. This kind of abuse is also prevalent in the government although government prohibits nepotisms and dynasties according to our constitution. Second, power struggle in the church or we call this church office politics. The power struggle in the offices are often motivated by a desire to outdo or outsmart one another for promotion or privileges. Third, abusing spiritual authority. These are title without function, boss not a servant, narrow-mindedness, dogmatism, self-righteousness and influence peddling. Some titles (ie. Pastors, bishops, elders, chairman, president, deacons and etc.) could also be an instrument to intimidate, dominate, and suppress critical thinking. Even the government install three branches of offices for check and balance to avoid title manipulations. These are Congress “makes laws”, Executive “applies the law”, and the Senate “tries and convict” and to include Supreme court which interprets and decides. When the system malfunction, then we have constitutional crisis, do the church has the same system? Atty. Fourth, use the information as a form of power. If the right to access to information is provided in government through Phil-Cons sec. 7, art. 3 much more in the church government also. Transparency and accountability in its management of information and communication system should be clearly defined. Fifth, control, manipulation and patronage system or “utang na loob” are being use also in the church. The code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials and employees are clearly defined in R.A. 6713. Granting incentives and rewards for exemplary service enumerative prohibited acts and transactions and providing penalties for violations or indirect bribery Art 211, PRC. Much more in the church, we should have like this service integrity and consequences. Giving gifts in advance prior to transaction that potentially compromise the integrity any purpose of transaction is prohibited. Sixth, organizational structure for effective decision making is the organization that stakeholder are heard and represented in the decision making process in church. Seventh, due process should be implemented same as in the constitution. Eight, leadership succession should be carefully evaluated by his/her capabilities and proven or tested expertise of the certain office he/she will be assign. Miss Nora Lucero quoted John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton that...power tends to corrupts absolutely, great men are almost always bad men. She explained that most of the bad men who were in power starts as a good men when they're underdog. In her explanations, whoever in the authority “pastor or laymen” tends to be evil if there is no accountability and transparency from the other people. She explained that families and clans may compromise decision making in terms of releasing planning, releasing funds, hiring personnel and etc. This recommends diminishing public trust in the church to the officers. Conflict of interest is another issue which church should disallows business transaction to other corporations or companies for purchasing equipments purpose and etc. If it is allowed then a prior disclosure is made and prior approval is secured. A Job description that is purposely segregates conflicting functions should be implemented, and there should be a clear-cut policies on the use of company assets. She also addresses the issue of leadership succession. Founder’s syndrome and nepotism are most commonly practice in the church everywhere. Another issue is individual occupy the same position, and no clear-cut staff retirement benefit plan. The power struggles in the church or control manipulation are also practice in the church. The absence or lack of implementation of organizational structure in the church results to no job/position description with specified qualifications when it come to hiring personnel and no management information system tends to make the pastor puppets. The due process for grievance and discipline are not properly implemented in the church because there is no written staff code of conduct, lack of pro-active, and lack of confidentiality on the matter of involving staff discipline. Bias implementations for discipline, only the rank in file are always under discipline and the higher positions are exempted because nobody disciplines them. Some of these leaders took advantage of their power to manipulate sexual and financial scandal and yet still in public service. The some of the church are guilty of tax- evasion, labour code, code and ethics, graft and corruption and etc. Some are guilty on diverting their intended funds for example funds for evangelism diverted to church building or spending more on the building but not evangelism and reaching the lost. Evangelisms, missions and outreach program were done only every prior to church anniversary just for the news letter purpose. A sex and gender issue in the church was discussed and our speakers was Dr. Isabelo Magalit President Emiritus of Asian Theological Seminary and Nora Avarientos Executive director of Owlrd Vision Development Foundation. An issue of abuse of sexual scandal, adultery and immorality is prevalent in the church and inevitable due to lack of due process. Gender discrimination towards gay and lesbian and issues of pornography was also discussed. These are the common problems in the churches today. Some of the independent churches practice many of these issues and some are on their way on trying to address these issues, some are bearing the consequences on these issues and they're on the process of splitting church. Now, I understand why some “agnostic and atheist” said churches today are of no different as business; purposely build the church to acquire money and power and even sex. Therefore church is potential for a den of thieves, adulterer and immoral, and hypocrite and cloth themselves in ministerial suit or sitting in the church office position “Lord have Mercy”. Is this true? Are we theologically, morally, ethically, politically bankrupt and ineffective Church? Some of you may agree or disagree on these issues, therefore I will invite you to post your comments or confession on this blog and explain your side. It it's true then how can we prevent immorality, graft and corruption in the government and society if the model this evil practices. Please post it in facebook if you are not a member on this blog or e-mail it to me to jesse_amiel@yahoo.com. Thank you.

The Secret to a World Ecomic, Political and Military Power By: Ptr. Jesse Amiel A. Ramoso

The secret of World Economic, Political and Military Power is Christianizing Philippines. This is I guess the only absolute and way the other country will take the lead to the world. I personally believed that Philippines is a very special Nation that God really care. I will site my example in historical point of view. First is the conquest of Magellan in 15th century. That time, Spain was not yet leading country when it comes to economic and military power because of her opponent "Portuguese" who was also taking the other side of the continent. It was Ferdinand Magellan from Portuguese argued that the World is round and it will connect to the spice island by taking the navigation through Atlantic ocean across Pacific Ocean, instead from via Indian sea. Of course on our time using google map, we will say its not a big deal. But looking to theirs “actually no map yet” just using 15th century technologies then no one on his right mind would believe the argument of Magellan . Same likewise in cosmological argument and understanding of theologians, Philosophers and Astronomical scientists believed that the world was flat, and the theory of CIRCUMNAVIGATION of Magellan is impossible. This belief does not only affect scientific or astronomical findings during their time but also the theological. Galileo was accused by the church "Vatican" that he was a heretic when he said that the “Earth Moves” . Galileo authored the book “Dialog with the Tides” this was his prediction about Earth movement by basing the Longitude and Latitude which he quoted Magellan's circumnavigation . This book was banned by Vatican and prohibited to be publish . We'll see here therefore Magellan played the major rule in theological and scientific reformation of Europe in 15th century. I will say theological, because it open the mind of the thinkers to reason "age of Reasons, Enlightenment period and etc.

Therefore let's examine the history of Magellan aside from pioneering the Magellan's Strait which becomes a very significant rule in navigation. When Magellan landed in Cebu City and he Christianized the people. This is the evident that Magellan's motive was not only to discover spice Island but also to bring God in the land where they landed. We knew that the mission of Magellan in finding spice Island resulting to economic and military control and later on influence World Power by making Philippines as a canter of the trade capital for Europe and America, China, India and Middle East. Spain enjoyed this privilege as a strong Nation until she has lost its political power when they start abusing their powers in the land they occupied.

It was the American who took the mantle of anointing of Spain to be a World political, Economical and Spiritual power when they helped and Christianize the Philippines. The story goes like this, it started on the revolt in Cuba in 1898 against Spanish regime and same as the revolt in Philippines that ignited World War I, President William McKinley and people of United States find their opportunity to take the ball of power and blessings “from God as the president having dream regarding Philippines.” William from Northern Methodist Episcopalian called up the meeting with the generals of the mission department in this denomination and discussed the possibilities of Christianizing Philippines. Pres. William McKinley said, “That they don't have the choice except to take the whole Philippines, uplift, educate, civilize and Christianized every Pilipino people”. This was consulted and debated with the government officials in Senate and Congress but he found out a little help, due to objection of Democrat Party. They object that, “Annexing Philippines was unconstitutional and inimical to American Democratic values, would lead to further wars in the East without providing any significant trade benefits, and would confer citizenship upon inferior, half-civilized peoples” . This was took a long debate. Though some commented that “it was the country's economic interest to exploit opportunities in East Asia” but the president's vision was clear, to “Christianize Philippines”. To cut the story short today we knew they succeed, they now influenced the World with their power. On the article (A Nation on a Mission by Richard V. Pierard) said “that William McKinley saw America's unexpected opportunity in the Philippines as a sign from God-and set the U.S. On a new course of global influence.

Therefore all America's achievements and success of today was determined by President William McKinley's decision to obey God, perhaps? It all started in the Philippines and today, almost all nation of the globe cannot exist without America's influence. They influence us with their military, politics, cultures, philosophies, educations etc. My premise on this article is that the Philippines has very important role on "Global reformation" wither it's Theology, Economy, Military or Culture etc. Philippines played that role booth Spain and America as they Christianized Filipino. Now we knew that every Nation that help or touch Philippines especially in Spiritual aspects were be blessed. Another example, it was Korean people who built our National Highways and infrastructure, and today they built Churches “buildings” for the poor, look where are they now? I don't exactly know what are the contributions of China, Japan and others, but all I know is that most of the foreign aids to our country were coming from them. That is why, I say that those who will do good, Christianize or make people Godly Filipino will end up World Economic, Military and Politically powerful, based on Spain and American mission history or Magellan and McKinley's mission . This is also serve to all of us as a warning, that those Nations, Country, People or Individuals that plans to destroy our Country including corrupt government officials in the Philippines will received consequences. I will just remind that those who plan to do harm to our country because of MONEY will end up like Judas who hung himself after his betrayal to Jesus because of 38 pieces of Silver. Same thing happened to the country of Japan who were trying to conquer Philippines in second World War.

In starting of their government in Philippines they govern without cruelty and partially took the lead as conqueror in Asia, later on they killed innocents and oppressed the Filipino. They end up surrendering to the Philippine allied “the United States” and left their treasures buried in our land. This is a tragic example to those who try to destroy Philippines. This is just my opinion; this might happen to us if we don't help Philippines instead take advantage through corruption? I would challenge to government officials that we don't need another Christian Nation to help our country because there's is none I think. Serve our government with integrity and honesty and help build our relationship God as a Nation, the finger of God is at work today. Or else will all wake up some day that most or all of our corrupt government officials took suicide leave their treasures to us, I hope this would not happen. Likewise Church leaders it is shameful for us to leave this responsibility to our Government officials alone, we should also take our responsibility and guard ourselves that we will not be end up like Judas who betray Jesus because of money. Let's help the poor and Christianized or making them Godly by God's grace specially using our treasures, by doing this it will safeguard us from greediness. Let's bear in mind that if there are people who should know the call of our country no other than the Christians, let's fulfil the call of God to our country. It is enough for us to know from historical point of view that God love those who reach out Philippines to aid them to become Godly. God Bless to all. To God be All the Glory.
